The Privvi Journey

Hello, I'm Anna Harrison and I created Privvi following an accident and life events that happened over the last year. Privvi was created as it was something I'd want for myself: to keep me safe and for my peace of mind. In bright, colourful little packs so you can carry it with you wherever you are. I'm very proud of my lovely boxes.

The Accident

The Privvi journey started with the most challenging experience of my life. I was in hospital daily when the UK went into lockdown in March. I’d fallen heavily onto my right hand, and an operation in October 2019 had led to complications. I’d been dipping in and out of painful, stressful treatment and told that I’d never regain the full use of my hand. It changed the way I saw the world and gave me a strength I didn't know I had. If it hadn’t been for my accident I don't think I'd have had the conviction to pursue the idea of Privvi. I’m still trying to save my hand to this day due to ongoing complications.

The 'Lightbulb' Moment

I’ve always been super-careful about hygiene and particularly wary of public toilets (especially portaloos!). After picking up a post-op infection in my hand I’d found hospital and the further risk of infection massively stressful, especially during the pandemic. So when we emerged at the beginning of July I found myself preparing for my first trip away post-lockdown. I was ordering toilet seat covers and antibacterial wipes when the idea popped into my head. I wanted to have everything I needed to feel safe to hand when I went into a toilet. I decided to call it Privvi (thanks to my granny who called her loo the Privy!)

The Jigsaw

The more I thought about the idea the more it grew and the more I could see it working. Most importantly I made it because I loved the idea myself. It was something I would want to have. It became my focus and slowly I started to piece things together. Whenever I felt down I'd keep going and do a little something every day. I was thankful for my graphics background in magazines as it helped me to visualise the idea. Great to put my ‘creative hat’ back on again. It was like a giant jigsaw but I had to make my own picture.

Nearly There

So here we are today. I’ve had some ups and downs and some fabulous moments: when my first box sample arrived by courier I nearly cried. It was amazing to finally have it in hand and it looked even better than I’d hoped. A big thank you to James my website developer (aka technical wizard). He lost his father to Covid at the start of the year. I think we spent as much time chatting as we did working but we’ve helped each other in a difficult time.

Ta da!

So here’s my fabulous little box. Something that grew from a troubled beginning into something really positive, practical and lovely. I’m so proud of Privvi, our journey and hope that you find it useful
